Oshun-Sango

No pressure, you don’t have to love me
Just give me some time, just make me feel lucky
When you lay with me night
And when the sun comes up to meet the light
You say that you don’t care
I’m big enough to handle it
Just play in my hair and kiss me while the candles lit
Your secrets safe with me and I won’t tell
I don’t mind if you hurt me it’s my own fault that I fell
And I tell myself I need you, but you don’t feel the same
And double standards taught me I should let you play the game
But I’m not ashamed of playing the fool
Just call me beautiful
You tell me things like you’ll leave her when we both know that’s not true
And make promises of the things we both know you won’t do
Boy it’s cool, I’ll crumble alone
And you gone live your life and only fuck when in the zone
And yeah you make me moan
I put you on a throne; you won’t pick up your phone
But baby you make me feel grown
So I persist to give you everything you want
Even though you kept it real with me and you been blunt
Saying that we won’t be together and this is only lust
And never equals never
I’m on the same page as you
There’s nothing that I can explain to you
To show you why

Oshun...

I just keep on giving
I cannot keep living for you
Got my mind spinning round
You gon’ let me drown
But I’m sick of falling
I wanna rise to love
Rise to love
Rise

(Verse 2)
A weak woman goes where she is smiled at
But I’ve never seen a smile quite like yours
Said he loves me, he loves me not
Well he’s not sure but he knows he wants me
Yeah he said I’m making him hot hot hot
And so I let him take my top off
I don’t know thinking maybe things will pop off
Or sparks from the physical signals to his mental for a certain type of spiritual relationship
But, he just want the rhythm of my hips
Placing seldom kisses upon my lips
You know that quick fix satisfaction
Bridging to nowhere, a fatal attraction
Like whoa there, why did we go there so fast?
We knew that purely matter never ever last
Now morning glass outside looking in
While your bragging bout my ass to your friends
And I know this all begins with my issues with men
That’s why

(Chorus 2)
I keep on defending
The fact that I’m depending on you
I know it’s true that
A weak woman goes where she is smiled at
But I’ve never seen a smile quite like yours
Whether you love me or love me not
I’ll adore you forever more

(Chorus 1)
And I’ll just keep on giving
I cannot keep living for you
Got my mind spinning round
You gon’ let me drown
But I’m sick of falling
I wanna rise to love
Rise to love
Rise

Kushite Kingdom Awards 2016

kushite-kingdom1

awards1

Welcome to the first Kushite Kingdom Awards! I usually deal with a lot of current events and topics my subscribers like to discuss.  But I’m not serious all the time.  I like to laugh and joke around like everyone else.  So I thought I would do something a little fun.  I also wanted to show a token of appreciation to all the black bloggers who have given me great information and food for thought. It’s a real battle out here in the blogosphere. And I appreciate all the words of encouragement from fellow bloggers.    This is not a real competition.  This is all meant in fun.  As you will see from some of the categories. But let me know your picks in the categories.  If enough people like this awards edition I may make it an annual event. So be sure to cast your votes and add anyone to the list I may have left out. My apologies to anyone that didn’t make the list.  Don’t hold it against me.  I appreciate all my subscribers. Peace.

Oshun- Gyenyame

I had to feature Oshun again! I love this song called Gyenyame. This song has a real laid back feel to it. And it has some great lyrics as well. Two very talented ladies!

Oshun

 (Thandwie)
I hydrate your souls, aquatic meditation
Goddess of the river
Lover of precipitation
I am the love and I am the beauty
Protection of a mother but sometimes I can get moody
Especially when my children forget that there’s work to be done
Ignoring the truth of the Supreme One

Your greed and irreverence has dried me out
Rebel or prepare for eternal drought

Oh

[HOOK]

Orishas, we your teachers, open up your eyes and recognize
It’s a, a reason for the demons
Refuse to comply, speak your mind, don’t abide
We the
Orishas, we your teachers, sister deities, the rivers and the seas
Orishas, your teachers, Queens of Africa, Oshun and Yemoja

[Verse 2]

(Niambi)
Orisha and abosum
And the ancestors too
Keep the trinity Blue
Because when me and you
Were taken on the Ferris
Were taking from our families
Were taken from our terrace
Were taken to a land that wasn’t really there’s
See I followed you there
And I washed off your tears
You were wondering where
I was when you were saying your prayers
I was swimming in the water
Swimming in the ocean
Swimming in the seas
See I was chosen
To nurture your hope and keep it awoken
May Jah bless your token
Stay reverent and open to

Oshun-Stuck

This is my new favorite music duo. Femme fatale tandem OSHUN lift their heads above the (not just) knee deep pool of modern r&b to introduce a sound that draws less on the melancholy, often gothic tones we associate with future soul, feeling much closer to dawning of a new Daisy Age. Comprising NYU students Niambi Sala and Thandiwe, the duo has taken to heart the soulful, sampladelic and socially aware artistry of OKP champions like Erykah Badu, the mighty Roots crew and Lauryn Hiland synthesized them into a new and true sound that blends the strongest of all of their respective suits in lyricism, composition and melodics.

Nowhere is this more clear than their freshly-pressed clip for the dulcet, Rhodes-soaked and vibe-heavy joint “Stuck”. It finds the duo of supple altos delivering tender and affectionate lines about life, love and culture, revealing the makings of a whole new wave of SoulquariansWell-versed in Yoruba folklore, spirituality and their broad spectrum of music.I love these young ladies. I think they have a great future ahead of them. They’re really talented. They give me hope for the next generation of music makers. This is the type of image our young girls need to see. Give it a listen and let me know of you like it.
