Paris Jackson: Culturally Black vs Genetically Black

paris1

The woman on the current cover of Rolling Stone is Paris Jackson. She is the daughter of the late music icon Michael Jackson. In the cover story Paris says that she knows for sure her father was killed.  That may or may not be true but that’s a story for another time.  This post is about the fact that Paris says in the interview that she considers herself a black woman.  Of course social media went crazy over this story. In the interview she says:

“He is my father. He will always be my father,” she said. “He never wasn’t, and he never will not be. People that knew him really … say they see him in me, that it’s almost scary.”

She even expounded a bit more, saying that because of the “Smooth Criminal” singer’s instilling words, she considers herself a Black woman.

“I consider myself Black. [Dad] would look me in the eyes and he’d point his finger at me and he’d be like, ‘You’re Black. Be proud of your roots,'” she said. “And I’d be like, ‘OK, he’s my dad. Why would he lie to me?’ So I just believe what he told me. ‘Cause, to my knowledge, he’s never lied to me.”

Despite what her father told her, she said the outside world still sees her as white: “Most people that don’t know me call me white,” she said. “I’ve got light skin and, especially since I’ve had my hair blond, I look like I was born in Finland or something.”

Let me be clear,Paris is NOT a black woman. Anyone with eyesight can see that. I don’t give a damn  what her father told her.  She looks purely European to me. From a biological standpoint, she is more European than anything else. I personally believe that Paris and her two siblings are not biologically related to Michael Jackson.  I think Michael used the sperm from a white man to impregnate Debbie Rowe because he didn’t want  his  children to look even  half black.  I went to school with plenty biracial kids and most don’t look like this woman.  Let’s be honest here,Michael Jackson was a very gifted singer/dancer.  I can’t take that away from him.  But he had serious self-hate issues.  I think Jackson hated himself so much he didn’t want to see a reflection of his blackness.  I still can’t believe he married that ugly white woman Debbie Rowe. That woman is hideous! But that shows his self hatred(anti-blackness) was really deep.  I saw black people on YouTube arguing in defense of Paris saying she was at least “culturally black”.  I have heard this term many times before.  I knew a white girl in high school that was adopted by a black couple.  She listen to rap music and dressed in hip hop clothing.  She told me she liked soul food, dated only black boys and spoke in a certain “black vernacular”. So many would say she is culturally black. So some may put Paris Jackson in that category.  But Paris and the white girl I knew in high school are still not black women.

EXCLUSIVE: Never-before-seen pictures of Michael Jackson and his children

Some like to say that being black is a mindset.  But I disagree. You either have African genes are you do not.  You have melanin or you don’t.  It’s that simple. This type of mentality diminishes the black experience and insults our ancestors. We are blessed to have African DNA in us.  And we have to get away from worshipping whiteness and being ashamed of blackness.  This is the mental illness many of us suffer from.  Many of us can’t appreciate our blackness unless it’s close to whiteness. That’s why some us have interracial sex so we can have mixed babies.  And then say “Isn’t this a beautiful black child?” This is why you have black fools saying “Paris should be allowed to call herself black.”  This is an insult to authentic black people.  It’s an insult to dark brown, dark skinned blacks with African textured hair.  Paris has none of the physical traits of a black person. If she does have any African genes she must be about 0.000001 % black.

This picture(above) is Paris with her brothers Michael Jackson Jr and Prince.  They are pictured with their grandmother Katherine Jackson.  These children may have been raised around black people but that doesn’t make them black people.  And we as black people have to stop giving everyone a pass.  We must stop making blackness all inclusive.  It makes us look stupid. They are making a mockery of our beautiful blackness.  It’s because many of us don’t have the courage to create a definition of what is an African person.  By allowing people like Paris to be considered is  black is an insult  to our intelligence. Paris or anyone that looks like her is not black. Michael Jackson told her to “be proud of your roots”.  He must’ve meant her European roots.

Menticide: Conversations in Black Self Hatred

Menticide2..

“The controllers of this society have made use of psychological warfare to erode and destroy the will and mind of Black people. This is menticide pure and simple. Once the victims discover the truth, we are forced to change our lives. But, the victim fears change because the victim doesn’t know where that change will take him or her. Indeed we fear the unknown. The victim seeks to deny but denial of this reality is problematic because the victim is reminded everyday. The victim is caught in an internal double bind, damned if they don’t, damned if they do.”- Olomenji, From an essay entitled Mentacide, Genocide and National Vision: The Crossroads for the Blacks of America.

A few weeks ago I was talking with a friend of mine about self hatred. She told me that she has heard anti-black comments from family and friends.  I  have also heard comments from family as well as co-workers that reek of self hatred.  So I decided I would share some cooments I’ve heard over the last ten years.   I’ve heard some really ignorant comments from black co-workers. These are just a few short conversations I’ve had.

Example #1

I was eating lunch in the break room with  a black male co-worker. There’s no one else in the room but us two.

Co-worker:  Hey man,you ever screw a white girl?

Kushite:  No I haven’t.  I don’t really like them.

Co-worker: What??  That’s crazy man! You got to try a white girl at least once. I get tired of black women. Change it up a bit. It feels good giving  it to these white girls! (laughing)

Kushite:  No I’m good.  They’re not my thing.  I’m more attracted to black women. White girls do nothing for me. But you do what you want.( He just looked at me and shook his head in disbelief)

Self Hatred1..

Example #2

During a break I was talking with an African(Nigerian) co-worker.  I noticed a magazine on the desk.  As I flip through the magazine I see a picture of actress Lupita Nyongo.

Kushite: Now this is a beautiful woman!  She is truly stunning…don’t you think?

African woman:  Yes she’s kind of cute…not bad.  But you know where there are beautiful woman?  Have you heard of the Hausa tribe?

Kushite:  Yes I believe so.  Aren’t they a tribe in West Africa?

African woman:  Yes they are.  Many of them are so beautiful.  Many are very light skinned with thin lips.

Kushite:  So you’re saying they look white? Come on now!

African woman:  (very defensive)  No No!  Not what I meant.  I just mean they are very beautiful.  Light skinned with pointy noses and thin lips, you know?  That is all I meant.

Dark Skin...

Example #3

Two  co-workers (black men) were by a cubicle and talking.  I was a few feet away behind them.  They couldn’t see me. An African woman co-worker walked by them.  She was a very dark skinned woman.

Black man #1- Did you see how dark she was?

Black man #2- Good Lord! She was dark as night! (laughing)

Black man #1- Yeah she was left in the toaster oven too long! That’s too black!(laughing)

Black man #2-  Burnt to a crisp! (both men laughing)

As a side note,Black man #1 has a biracial daughter with a white woman. And is currently dating a Mexican woman.  He doesn’t even look at black women.  Black man #2 as a daughter with a black woman although they have since broken up.  He told me he is currently engaged to a mixed woman.  Mixed with what??  He told me she mixed with white and Mexican.  He even showed me a picture of this below average looking woman.  She looks pretty white to me.  Both of these “men” are pathetic examples of the black race.

These are just a few examples that come to mind.  Can you name an instance of black self hatred?  Or maybe a comment that someone may have made that sounds anti-black? Something insulting about nappy hair?  Or something degrading about skin color?  I’m sure you’ve heard these comments before.   I’d love to read your examples.

European Possession- Amos Wilson

The black man is re-created because he’s separated from his African self…that’s the process. You cannot be an AFRICAN and a SLAVE at the same time. You cannot be truthfully and pridefully an African and relate to each other as African people the world-over and be the dupes and subordinates of European [and other] power – it can’t happen. The ruling of Africans the world-over is brought through the process of FALSE INDIVIDUALISM and SEPARATING THE AFRICAN IDENTITY. The slave experience wasn’t just an exploitation of labor but it was ultimately a BRAINWASHING procedure. What is happening to the African during this process: why is the African losing language, culture, social organization, perspectives, religion, etc.? YOU WILL SEE AN AFRICAN BEING NIGGERIZED – BEING TURNED INTO A SERVANT! If you are at one with your identity, no other identity can be placed in you. It’s only when you become separated from your African identity that you leave a vacuum for another identity to be introjected and inculcated into your personality.

White Lies..

In order for the servility and inferiority complex, the loss of self-confidence and pride, the loss of a sense of mastery and collectivism, we had to first be separated from our African identity by the people who would use us. This was done by having us become ignorant of our African culture and by degrading and associating everything African and black with negativity. The associations to things African and black is such that many want to escape from things African and black. Through rewards and punishments, the Europeans [and Arabs] have separated the African from his identity. They’ve effectively loaded the African identity with negative associations that even the African doesn’t want to identify with it. WE GET INTO ABSTRACTIONS: “I’M AN AMERICAN; I’M A HUMAN BEING”–ANYTHING BUT AN AFRICAN! It’s this separation that provides the energy for others to dominate us and you’ll see it early in African children. WE ARE POSSESSED – ALIENATED! – Dr. Amos Wilson
