Return of The Gods 2018-San Diego,Ca.(World Beat Center)

ROTG Banner...

Recently I got the chance to attend Return of The Gods.  It was held at the World Beat Center in San Diego,California. It was a fun filled three day event.  Over the course of three days they had a fashion show, yoga, martial arts demonstration and African dancers. They had rappers, singers and guest speakers.  It was really fun to meet a lot of the people in the black conscious community I’ve followed over the years.  Return of The Gods was created by the brilliant Kateria Knows. She wanted to create an event that would bring black people together in love and peace. And also raise the collective consciousness of black people.  We really need that right now. And I respect the fact that she’s putting forth the effort.  Not just talking about it but putting it in action.  I must give her a lot of props for that. The event was hosted by comedian Michael Colyar and Mama Funshine.  Colyar was cracking jokes a lot.  But he did keep it lively and kept the crowd involved. There were performances by rappers such as Sa-Roc,D Ranks,Sole,Herb Alkhemyst and conscious battle rapper BDOT. I also saw Ayanna Gregory, who is the daughter of the late comedian Dick Gregory. And I spoke with entrepreneur/radio host Six Goddis.  Six is a really cool sista. They also had special honorees as well. The renowned healer and author Queen Afua was honored.  I got a chance to chat with the elder.  I told her I had some of her books and have followed her for many years.   It was a pleasure to speak with her and her son.  I also spoke with author/health activist Chef Ahki.  She had a vendor booth selling her books and products. She has a great book called The Fibroid Elimination Recipe Guide.  I suggest any women that want to avoid fibroids purchase that book.  Also Booker T. Coleman was in attendance.  Some of you may remember him from the documentary Hidden Colors. Lecturer Michael Imhotep was also honored. He is the creator of the African History Network. I also saw rapper Lord Jamar from the legendary rap group Brand Nubian. And rapper Rah Digga was in attendance.  It was a really fun event.  I got to meet a lot of really cool and intelligent brothers and sisters.  There was definitely nourishment for the mind, body and soul.  I hope Kateria does it again next year.  I definitely would go!

  1. Looks like it was a great event! I wish events like this were happening more on the regular when I was living in Cali! Thanks for the post!

    • Yes it was really fun. A very festive and peaceful atmosphere. I think you would’ve had a great time. Kateria usually has the event almost every other year. She invites different black speakers, rappers, singers and authors. She put together a nice group of people. Next time she has it you should try to attend. But I do agree,California needs more events like this every year.

    • I try to find fun events that are elevate my consciousness. All the credit goes to Kateria for putting it together. I would rather go to an event that supports black talent and vendors than mindless entertainment. This event was better than seeing Beyonce,Lil Wayne or Drake in concert. Besides I got to meet great elders like Queen Afua. She’s the type of person our children should be looking up to anyway. Not artists like Drake and Jay Z. We have to change the minds of our people. We seem to gravitate towards music and television shows that will destroy our minds. And we run away from things that will heal our souls. Our minds are turned backwards. Return of The Gods is the type of event that promotes love, peace and family. In my opinion, we need more events like this all across the country.

  2. I wish I’d have known you were there KP. I was there all 3 days. Probably looked at you not even knowing. I must say it was a magnificent experience.

    • Really?? That’s cool Sunshine! I probably did I see you then. But I came down on Saturday. I was wearing a long sleeve purple shirt. I was doing a lot recording in front of the stage. Did you meet any of the guests? Queen Afua was a honor. And I talked to Chef Ahki and Sa-Roc. All the guests were really cool.

      • I’m sure I saw you as I was sitting next to the stage early on Saturday. I met all of the guests. I had met Queen Afua years ago so it was a pleasure being in her graceful presence again. Chef Ahki is awesome.Sa Roc, SoulFlower, everybody there felt like kindred spirits. I’ll post you a picture of me to see if you remember me.

  3. To Kushite Prince and all:
I was on Gus T Renegade’s Facebook page where he stated that Pamela Evans Harris aka Umoja aka Pam has made her transistion. She was the author of 2 books. Black Love is a revolutionary act and The Interracial con game. As well as the author of the blood Racism Is White Supremacy. She will surely be missed.

    • Oh my God!! Are you serious? This is horrible news! I’ve followed Pam for over eight or nine years. I’ve called into Cows many times and spoke with her. She would send me emails all the time. I was wondering why I haven’t heard from her in months. When did this happen? Was she sick? I know she was a very private person, much like me. I have all her books. She even signed them for me. I never met her yet I feel like I know her so well. She opened so many eyes to all the different ways racism hurts our people. This is heartbreaking news. We’ve lost a true warrior in the battle for justice and liberation. I’m speechless right now. I may have to do a post about this tragedy. I’m really sad. 😢

  4. It does sound like a soulful and real and fun event! My condolences regarding Umoja aka Pam’s transition. We’re not supposed to mourn, supposed in air quotes, but we are human. Grief is something we all know and know it well. She sounded like an awesome person, engaging and intelligent. @25, Black, and Alive I agree with you re: so so so many rappers/artists, so called artists perhaps, putting “Lil” in front their moniker…like, Wth, since when has any man been ok with that adjective! It’s demeaning and has a psychological effect over time, no question. I don’t watch news, or read it, period. And I listen to dance music, whose lyrics are usually relevant and applicable to my life my way of thinking and so, helpful thru hard times and bumpin thru the great times “life is a game, and love is the prize”

    Big Love

    DJ

    • Return of the Gods was wonderful! Everyone was so pleasant! I had a great time. I miss Pam a lot. She was a good friend and true warrior. She was a champion until the end. I’m so glad she inspired others. And her memory lives on! Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
