Keri Hilson

Keri Lynn Hilson  was born on December 5, 1982. Hilson  is an American singer, songwriter, actress and record producer. She was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia, and spent most of her youth working with producer Anthony Dent, as a songwriter and background vocalist for several R&B and hip hop artists. By the age of 14, Hilson had secured a record deal with the girl group D’Signe, who later disbanded. She attended Oxford College of Emory University and Emory University in Atlanta, while she continued writing songs for artists, including Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls, and Mary J. Blige, with the production and songwriting team, The Clutch. In 2006, Hilson signed with American rapper and producer Timbaland‘s record label, Mosley Music. Her breakthrough came the following year after appearing on Timbaland’s single “The Way I Are“, which topped charts around the world.

Hilson’s music style is generally R&B, hip hop and pop; womanhood, sexual intimacy and love are typical themes. Her musical influences come from her father’s side of the family. Hilson’s debut studio album, In a Perfect World…, was released in 2009, and debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, eventually being certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album spawned the hit singles, “Knock You Down“, “Turnin Me On” and “I Like“. It also earned Hilson two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Knock You Down”. Her second studio album, No Boys Allowed, was released in 2010 and was considerably less successful than its predecessor; however, it included the platinum single, “Pretty Girl Rock“.

Besides her music career, Hilson has also contributed to various charities and pursued a career in acting, but she continues to record and perform music. She has contributed in the fight against HIV and AIDS, helped various relief efforts for natural disasters, and become involved with several educational organizations. In 2012, Hilson made her acting debut in the romantic comedy film, Think Like a Man. Her achievements include a BET Award, MOBO Award, NAACP Image Award and two Soul Train Music Awards.

  1. I like her. People be talking about how Beyonce pretty much shut down her career. Whatever the case, IMO Keri still winning bc she got Serge Ibaka. Hello now.

    • Yeah I always thought Keri should’ve been a bigger star. I think she’s prettier than Beyoncé though. I don’t think Beyoncé would’ve been as big if Aaliyah hadn’t died. But that’s a whole different story. But Keri has been doing a lot of acting lately. She’s actually a decent actress.

Keri Hilson is beautiful. But I will have to disagree with you on this Beyoncé would have still been a bigger star than Aaliyah. The reason why Beyoncé was already international known star with her group Destiny’s Child before her solo career. Aaliyah’s last album didn’t start doing good on the chart until after her death. Her first release single “We Need A Resolution” tank on the charts. Furthermore Beyoncé’s voice sound better than Aaliyah’s but music wise Aaliyah is much better.

      • Yeah I know what you mean. Beyoncé was known because of Destiny’s Child. But her first film role wasn’t until 2002 in Austin Powers. I think Beyoncé got even bigger after her first solo cd. As far as beauty goes I think Aaliyah was the only one who gave Beyoncé real competition. Aaliyah would’ve given her a run for the money had she lived. Beyoncé had already surpassed Monica and Brandy. And Ciara is not on the same level. Only Rihanna is close to Beyoncé’s level. I also like think Aaliyah had a certain cool mystique about her. And she wasn’t overexposed in my opinion. Beyonce has the big blonde weave and seems over the top at times. Aaliyah was more cool and laid back. I think that’s what made her so appealing to fans. I feel sad that she died. Makes me wonder what could’ve been.

    • Yeah I always wonder about that. Sacrifice??? Could be. I put nothing behind these sick bastards. That plane crash was always fishy to me. She was engaged to Damon Dash at the time. So it could’ve been his sacrifice. I’m still not 100% sure though.

I’m a Aaliyah fan!!!!! I didn’t like the fact she was dating Damon Dash because something about him rub me the wrong way.

      • Yeah Dame comes off a bit arrogant. But then again so does Jay Z. I never really cared for either off them. But I think Jay is worse. I hear he’s pretty cut throat in the industry. And can’t be trusted.
